Terraces, estates and apartment blocks
Older terraced streets have small rear yards, shared passages and brick walls that stay damp because buildings crowd each other. Post-war estates tend to have concrete paths, tarmac or block-paved drives and rendered or pebbledashed walls. Newer apartment buildings come with communal courtyards, bin stores and car parks that collect grime from traffic and from nearby roads such as the M602.
Each of these needs a different approach. Brick and render want a gentle soft wash, while tarmac and concrete can take more pressure. Communal areas also bring access, notice and drainage questions that we raise before we start.
